Since the upgrade to the Honda CB400, and riding regularly, commuting to and back from work, I decided it was time to invest in some riding boots as my everyday shoes aren’t really geared for safety and I noticed the left shoe began to scuff near the gear changing lever.
Due to the Perth summer heat I also wanted something that would breath and allow some air flow. Tried and tested various riding boots, both full length and ankle boots, and ended up buying the Alpinestars SMX-1 boots. They’re extremely comfortable and provide ample breathability and air circulation, together with solid protection with padded leather patches and moulded sliders.
My only grip is that because they are so breathable and aimed for summer use, they’re not water resistant at all. Got caught with a gentle rain shower on my way home from work one day and I could feel the rain seeping through the boots. Got home and found that my feet and socks where soaked. Guess I’ll need to look for some winter boots when autumn comes along. Having said that though, as summer boots they’re great.
